As promised, I've done another time-lapse. This time, I photographed
an Audi Q5 getting the front end rebuilt. It was a long process but the
results are awesome! Here's the video and a behind the scenes look at
how I did it for the Fstoppers.com BTS contest! Head over to Youtube to
watch them in HD and full screen. Enjoy!

Will,
ReplyDeleteGreat job on the time lapse. I watched your BTS on the Fstoppers site, and here I am as a result of that.
Having never tried time lapse myself, I'm wondering if you would clue me in to any considerations with regards to battery life...how did you keep the camera powered for the full day? Did you find a single charge was sufficient?
Additionally, can I correctly assume you used manual focus and/or a focus lock?
Thank you in advance.
Hey KWC! Thanks for coming to the blog. I used the Canon 1D Mk II N which as an accessory comes with a DC converter which allows you to actually plug in your camera to a wall outlet. This was mainly for convenience since I lived about 30 minutes away from the body shop. For this shoot though I'd imagine if I kept a spare battery around and checked/swapped every 6 hours or so or at the beginning of each set of capture you'd be alright.
ReplyDeleteYes you'd be correct to assume I used manual focus. When setting up the shot I'd find my angle, check my exposure, find focus then switch to manual focus, and start shooting in Manual mode.
Let me know if you have any other questions!
Also, with such a long timelapse, I wouldn't worry about a missed frame here and there because the interval was 30 seconds with a stationary main subject. If I were doing a sunset or something that moves much quicker I'd worry about missed frames but that would also eliminate the battery life problem.
ReplyDeleteDC converter...of course!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the quick response Will!
